I very honestly think that it's not just you. Beetlejuice as a character is designed to be gross and they do a really good job of it, but he's still a pretty compelling personality. I'm pretty sure a lot of people shipped the cartoon versions.

the character Claire had a mouth that looked like a vagina, match her up with Beetlejuice.

Yeah, Beetlejuice is one of those goth things that I was happy to never get into. The whole setting (as well as the guy himself) just seemed like vulgar, ugly trash to me.
