same tbh. i subscribed to a patreon for a youtuber once but it wasn't worth it. they didn't actually put much content on there and i would only recommend doing it yourself if it's someone you really want to support. not just to get the extra content

I'm the opposite, if all that the Patreon gets is the exact same stuff but earlier, then I don't see a point in subscribing. It just means I have to wait longer for the official content to be posted so I can discuss it with everyone else.

I prefer the middle ground where everyone gets the exact same main channel video content, but extras and behind the scenes and vlogs and community things that wouldn't fit or go on the main channel anyway are Patreon exclusives.

I have the same reaction. I know it's irrational and entitled, but I get annoyed when they put stuff behind a paywall like that. And a lot of time it's a lot of parasocial stuff that the patreon people get, which makes me even more annoyed.

I’m the opposite. I only subscribe to creators who produce exclusive content for patrons. I don’t see the point in paying for non exclusive content. I know some argue that Patreon is about supporting creators because you like them but the history of patrons shows that some are exclusive and some are for the masses. But there is no point in modern patronage to pay for content created for the masses because the creator will earn income off that, anyway.

I am unlikely to subscribe to a patreon just for content unless I want to support them as a creator as well, but I'm fine with using it for stuff that can't go on Youtube anyway. A lot of people I watch have been hit by copyright strikes (for fair use content) lately, so I don't begrudge them using patreon to monetize it when Youtube won't let them. This is assuming they do videos as a living, though.

I've subscribed once for it, and said Youtuber quickly fell from grace, so I'm not likely going to ever do that again.

Which youtuber?

This was waaaaay back when his channel was new but it was Plagued Moth... I hate the mf now and wish I never bothered, but his Patreon-exclusive documentary series was pretty good and well researched. Not sure what he's up to now, since last year he got cancelled and divorced his groomer wife. The rest of his content is in such bad taste, I don't understand why he couldn't just stick to 101 journalistic/documentary style coverage of true crime and whatnot.

I don't do Patreon. But I have joined a few Youtube channels, meaning I pay a small monthly fee and get some extra content.

I have no issues with Patreon exclusive content. I can't afford to subscribe to most creators' Patreons, but I understand why creators put their works behind a pay wall and I can't be mad at them for it.

Of the ones I do subscribe to, some have great content on Patreon, others not so much.
But I know giving them $1 helps them with their work so if it's a creator I like and want to keep seeing content from, I don't mind giving them a little money to help.

I'm split on this: On one hand, I don't see why I should pay for something that will be free anyway at a later point - I don't stan any creator enough to want to be able to see their work a few weeks in advance.
On the other hand, I unfollow creators who only ever post links to their exclusive content on patreon and don't actually post anything finished on their free platforms anymore. Because I also don't stan them enough to actually pay money for their content.
