Looks like “aphobia” might be an umbrella term for “acephobia” (prejudice/bigotry against asexuals) and “arophobia” (prejudice/bigotry against aromantics).

I can’t say I love it as a term, it makes me feel like the linguistic clipping (dropping parts of a word) is kind of getting out of hand. But I see how it could be useful.

OP

I’ve never heard “acephobic” before. Different parts of the Internet, I guess.

UUUH it seems it's another term for "acephobia" (it's a term that include ARO + ACE without leaving aromantic people behind). omg I hate it. The greek root A means "non-existent" so aphobia is the non-existence of fear??? fuck me for knowing how language and greek roots work I guess

On the one hand, I agree it’s annoying from the standpoint of trying to parse a word from its parts.

On the other hand, it’s part of a process that shows up all over the place: homophobia, biphobia, etc.

AYART

AYRT

That was my knee-jerk reaction as well.

I think it's been a long time since anyone expected English to strictly adhere to any rules concerning greek roots... or strictly adhere to anything else lol

Yeah. I mean I get that "language evolves" and everything, but I still hate it.
