tbh the more annoying thing to me, in BG3, is that even though only 2 of the possible 10 companions are angrily monogamous, if you want to play the field and be fwb with all the others, you can't actually. You have to break up with one to start a different one. Having to lock in a romance route as early as act 1 also sucks balls, you're right, but yeesh the way some of them mope if you want to try a different partner, not to mention you can't really go back. Once you break up, they've moved on, no getting back together not even for a fun time with the drow twins.

BG3 did break a lot of barriers with romanceable routes, ngl, but they also really failed at the same time. and don't get me started on how fucking moon-eyed Halsin is, I had to break up with him just to get him to stop calling me cutesy pet names.
