Can you hike in rubber rain boots, or do you need hiking boots?

Something I'm wondering.

If I were able to change my appearance so no one would recognize me, I'd start hiking, but I'd wear rubber rain boots to keep my feet dry and clean, and because they're easy to wash and meant for things like mud.

I'd follow other hikers, and whenever a hiker went off trail, I'd follow them, quietly. Until I found a hiker pooping on the ground or in a hole. Then I'd sneak up behind them and kick them in the butthole. I just don't want to mess up nice shoes doing it.

Combo hit of foot and poop fetish! You don't see that too often.

You can hike in anything, but I don't imagine hiking in rain boots would be very comfortable or practical. You can get rain proof trail shoes or you can get comfortable shoes and spray them with a waterproof spray (as long as they aren't mesh). Also, you can throw most shoes in a washing machine so they're pretty easy to wash.

Heads up that I don't think general hikers poop in the woods that often. That's more a backpacker thing. Just to make your fantasies a little more accurate ;)

You can only hike in rubber boots on trails at least 450 miles long and you must thru hike the trail.
