I'm a cat person when it comes to what sort of animal I'd cohabitate with in future... but we used to have a newfie-lab mix and I do retain a fondness for newfies because of her. Could NOT handle sharing a house with one, especially a full-blooded one, but she was a darn good dog (a holy terror when we moved from the woods to the suburbs, because she'd tear through the fence so she could go out past the cul de sac to the canal and there seemed to be nothing we could do that she couldn't get through, but a good dog nonetheless)

My other favorite breed is pit bulls. I love big, solid, square-headed dogs, I just don't want to own one. But in my experience, the big dogs I've known have all been absolute sweethearts, even if they sometimes got Ideas. The small dogs I've known... some have been very sweet, and some have been absolute nightmares.
