Eh, I will always enjoy this exchange:

"You expect me to talk?"
"No, Mr. Bond-- I expect you to *die!*"

(The treatment of Pussy Galore in both the book and the novel is pretty appalling though.)

Eh, Not unreasonable, it's certainly one of the weaker Connery ones. On the whole tho, I place it middle of the pack.

Connery at his worst is still better than most of the Moore run, the later Brosnan ones, and all but one of the Craigs.

That’s exactly how I rate the franchise, too! Although I’m a Bad Fan because I liked Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby.

Timothy Dalton is, Imo, the BEST Bond. I think because he had two KILLER movies and didn't have time to get bored or churn out a dud. Just two classic well acted films.

But I couldn't get away with Lazenby. I can't tell if it's because it was written for Connery, or if the director was trying to make him Connery, or if he was too unsure about playing the character without trying to channel Connery... But the shadow of his predecessor was just too big for him. He wasn't his own bond. He might have found his own style if he'd had more films, but being a one-and-done kinda left him with a bit of a rough turn for him.

He had a couple of really good moments, like he killed it in Tracy's death scene in a way I just couldn't see Connery managing but... Idk, it felt like he wasn't confident enough be more than a place holder to me.

TL;DR, a short run made Dalton for me, and killed Lazenby.

For me it’s Dalton, Connery, Lazenby, the others.

But you’re right about Connery’s shadow. It is there in most scenes but it felt like he stepped into his own more than they’d have liked and it made him perfect to me.

I think I go Dalton, Connery, Brosnan (I feel I have to excuse this pick, but his best movies (Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies) were awesome and push him just ahead of Moore), Moore, Then Lazenby, And Finally Craig. Everyone always thinks I'm too harsh on Craig and too kind to Moore, but I think they forget that Moore DID have some good movies, and Craig had some STINKERS (Quantum of Solace) alone pushes him to the bottom of the pile.
