Ha ha, that's OK, they're awesome together. In my view, "I ship it" doesn't always mean sexytiems, necessarily, it just means you want to see more of the interaction. In some cases.

Extremely hypocritical, yes. Good ol' slasher double standards.

I just BFF shit out of them like woah. I want more Kurt/Mercedes screentime but I love him and all his gayness too much for him to become all of a sudden magically straight.

I think it's a lot less hypocritical and a lot more gender and sex-role normative. Dude's dudes can be gay, but there's no way a frilly lispy man-boy could possibly be straight in western society.

I adore Kurt/Nercedes BFFness... mostly because they remind me so much of me and my gay BFF

I do too. (Because I've been one to find out that the BFF I was in love with didn't swing my way.)

I really wanted Kurt to magically be straight in the beginning of the series, before he came out, because I didn't want the flambouyant boy to be just another gay stereotype. I still kind of would like the idea of some other, forgive me for saying, more ~*masculine*~ and less stereotypically flaming individual to be the gay character, or even having a gay woman [fancy that] on the show, but. Meh. I love Kurt, gay, straight, bi, or purple.

Of course this arises the issue of "WHY DOES THERE HAVE TO BE ONLY ONE TOKEN GAY IN THE SHOW B'AWWWW." IMO, there should be a fuckload more gay people, especially given the nature of the show. My theatre/choral group was almost seventy-five percent homosexual, in some way. Only a few people were actually hardcore straight.

But, tangent aside, even though I got over the ship in the episodes after he came out, the touching hands part made me love it all over again. Not really in an intense OMG SOUL MATES romance kind of a way, but a waffy bff shippy kind of way.

Moar screentime, I desire it. D:

Double standard? Absolutely.
Hypocritical? Not exactly.

Making a gay character straight has some unsavory connotations that aren't there when making a (presumed) straight character gay. For starters, there's a movement in real life dedicated to trying to make gay people straight- not always willingly. On a more meta level, there's also the fact that there isn't exactly a huge wealth of gay characters out there on most shows. If you write a straight character as gay, you've got one less straight character, but unless your canon has more than just a single token, writing someone canonically gay as straight can mean effectively erasing an entire segment of the population.

None of this is to say that NO, you should absolutely NEVER do that, but... it is something that ought to be handled with more thought and care than the reverse.
