Right. Because anonymity isn't enough to discourage somebody from being honest about what actually bothers them about a television show.

If that were true, this comm would be a very different (and much less pleasant) place.

That doesn't mean this is a case of closet homophobia. If anything, it's a case of somebody not thinking enough.

You may be right, but it's not like the two are mutually exclusive, either.

Le sigh. If you're trying to be cute, I'm not really in a mood to have it, so forgive me. "Not thinking enough" meaning "not stopping to think of the myriad ways it could still work."

That said, I don't really get how the whole "she had to have been birthed from someone" argument works out.

After all, is she a daughter of this woman because she was birthed from her? She wouldn't have the woman's genetic heritage, after all. Lovely philosophical question there.

Er, she actually would have the genetics of the woman that birthed her. They needed to get an egg from somewhere and I'm thinking they probably just used the same women for both the egg and the carrying-to-term.

If we're going by "it could happen this way" arguments, I'd like to point out that when you clone something, you remove the haploid chromosome that comes from the mother, and insert the genetic material of what you want to clone.

There are ways to remove the mother's genetic material from the egg.

It would probably just cost a hell of a lot of money.

Sperm don't have complete genetic material anyway. What I'm saying is there might be some extremely expensive way to combine two haploid chromosomes from male sperm. Genetic scientists are all about dicking with nature. Somebody had to have thought of this before me, before now.

You presented cloning as a viable option so as to say the fact that she has a genetic mother is only a possibility. It is not merely a possibility because she is clearly not a clone, especially given the fact that the show clearly indicated she was created using artificial insemination.

Isn't that what this whole issue was about; what was or was not said on the show. Canon says she has two dads and is Jewish. People are coming up with reasons for why that could still be even though Judaism, at least traditionally, is matrilineal.

Honey, I didn't say cloning, you just didn't read it right. And frankly, regardless of genetics, she still had to have been *birthed* out of some female's birth canal. Like I said before, it's a philosophical question when it comes to that point. So regardless of whether or not this possibly fictitious genetic dicking-with happened, there was always some artificial insemination going on because I know for a fact we don't have facilities capable of artificially bearing children like in the Matrix. But it'd be a lot simpler to just say she was created using artificial insemination.

...This is entertaining. Best thing ever instead of studying for a midterm.

What is also canon is that she was created using artificial insemination. Unless there is some incredibly recent technology that I don't know about (which would be pretty special since my job is fertility related), my point stands.
