Yes, it does matter. As a reform Jew, I know you can still be Jewish if your dad is Jewish and your mum isn't.

Hey, I'm a Heb too. I know Reform has a lot looser rules, with regards to who's a Jew already/conversion, etc. I'm just saying Judaism itself is matri-lineal, traditionally.

Do you watch the show? What's the story with this character?

She was the product of artificial insemination; her dads mixed together their sperm and put it in a surrogate. We don't know anything about the surrogate mom, it's possible she was Jewish.

But they're raising her Jewish? All that matters, then.

Yeah, Glee is about this 'outcasts' in high school and they join Glee club. Eventually some popular people join and drama ensues. The character is some really high strung girl who is set on being a big broadway star, with two dads. The newest episode showed her hooking up with this other Jewish guy because he wanted to hook up with another 'hot Jew'. Hahahaha, it's not the greatest show but it's amusing. :P

Ah, no worries. I feel you. Seriously.

Haahahahaha, true that! And YES. Yes you do. Although, it really makes me want to cringe and gives me second hand embarrassment 50% of the time, it's a feel-good show.

But the writing is not wonderful and all the characters are stereotypical. Well, most. The cheerleading coach woman is so awesome, it hurts a little.

This is what I've heard- that it's like cardboard cut out people, but they do some really cool things. Hee. I will have to give it a try. Nice to meet you, btw. Always cool to find fellow Hebs.

Weeeeeeeeellll. It's hard to explain, but hey, it's the internet and there is no word count so here I go: My dad is born in Singapore but his family came from Romania to Singapore because of the war. My mum was born and grew up in Colombia, but her background is Polish (they also went there because of the war.) My sister is born in Singapore but I was born in California 'by accident' because I was slightly premature. And both my parents are Jewish.

I even go to an international school here, and people still are confused.
Oooh yes. There are two synagogues with loads of Chabad it's scary. Most of the really orthodox here are Sephardic and even though I grew up with the people there, my parents really don't like the whole 'holier than thou'-ness about them just because they keep kosher. I don't know if you are very religious or anything, but yeah. ): But there is a small group, called the UHC, which is made up of mostly Americans, which is reform so we go there for prayers.
There are actually lots of Jews here. It would surprise you.

I have one friend who is Sephardic, but everyone else I have ever known is Ashkenaz. I'm not terribly religious, I married a Catholic, although he is in the process of converting. And kidlet is about to be Bar Mitavah'd. I was raised a lot more religious than I turned out as an adult. But I feel that- I dunno, yearning for Jewish fellowship. Especially as I get older and raise my kid.

I really respect what the Chabad do, but I've never been to one of their services. They kinda. Make me nervous. Wayyyyy more religious than I will ever be again.

I see what you mean. My mum 'raised me up', if you can say that xD (I'm still just 15), more religious than I am now. I remember when I was like 11, we had some Chabad boys come over to our house to teach my sister and I hebrew! Too bad we failed miserably. XD Still don't know Hebrew. They were nice, but kinda... INTENSE. My sister had an argument with one of them about evolution. o.o She's braver than I am.

I went to Yeshiva. Used to speak Hebrew fluently. Now- I can read it fluently, but I couldn't converse with anyone to save my life anymore, I don't think.

Ha. Your sister sounds awesome. Although the brand of Orthodox I was raised in believes in evolution. Of course, they kinda think the Chasidim are a little whacky. Heh.
