Games thread!

Oh yeah. The one where Hitler and Goering get promoted to Companion status... Yeah, that was not a good look Terrance. Why would you do that?

Personally, I want them to do Sanctuary instead. The Doctor does Cadfael, basically.

I'm looking in to doing this with games. Fucking Ubisoft.

question about recycling?

(Anonymous) 2025-08-09 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
So, I noticed when I was throwing old glass bottles into the recycling bin (I couldn't place them in, because the bin is full of angry wasps, okay. Had to stand a couple of meters back out of range and hurl stuff in) that a lot of people had neglected to take the lids off their jars and bottles. So, do glass recycling plants have ways to sort out the plastic and metal jar tops? They must have thought of this, somehow, right? Or do they just dump them all into the melter and just accept a certain amount of metal and plastic as an acceptable level of contaminant? I assume the plastic at least burns off.

Anyone know? And anyone know why the wasps are so extraordinarily angry this year? Little buzzing bastards.

But ebooks are the one digital purchase where you outright own a copy though. It’s up to you download and store the copy and that’s not the same as downloading to your device, which is why I think so many people assume they’ve paid for access to available content instead of purchasing a copy. This is also why ebooks from small publishers or anything from the giant trad publishers costs so much.

It will depend entirely on the facility that recycles for your community. In some European countries, all recycling is sent to one of a very few facilities and it is all hand sorted. So lids and stuff get separated out and sent to the correct production line. Some communities and even countries do the sorting in one location and then disperse the materials to different processing locations. If you’re in North America, there’s a high probability that everything will go straight to the landfill.

Stupid question, maybe, I don't watch streamers: Won't watching help financially?

didn't amazon just change this, though?

I mean, she's also not your responsibility lol. This is her job, not charity (unless it is for charity, in which case you gotta take care of yourself before taking care of other people).

(Anonymous) 2025-08-09 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. They disabled downloading the copy via their desktop app in the US. That’s the only change. And you can still download it legally in America but you need a third party app to do it. There was no change for the rest of the world though.

I think this varies depending on your location and the individual company policy. Mine asks people to clean out jars and replace the cap. They've got a sorting line where people are employed to go through and weed out the inevitable stuff that gets in that isn't accepted at this recycling facility, or pick out obvious things that don't belong like someone's car keys. (That happens a lot.)

As for wasps, hell if I know. They're always bad out here because I'm in a rural area and they try to build nests on your walls, in doorways, the eaves, etc. All this warm weather must suit them. I'm guessing someone else must've failed to clean out something sugary out of their empty jars and wasps love that shit.
