Hold up. What's the difference between self-insert and reader fic? I thought those were the same thing?

It's not the same, but I've been having a lot of fun with OCs in WH 40k. Not self-inserts or anything, just OCs who get to be a part of my favorite legions and/or factions. It's good times. XD

Historically, “self insertion” refers to the artist/author putting themself into the work as a character.

OOOOH. I knew someone in the HP fandom way back in the day (like early 2000s) who did self-insert with her LJ username and everything but it was never something I was interested in so I never delved deeper. I guess I conflated it with the y/n thing of reader fic.

Thanks!
