+1. A donation to the hospice or to a major charity related to what the sister died of. Your donation is doing some good regardless of their mixed feelings, and they don't have to deal with a physical gift. I did this when my uncle (not blood relative, divorced from my aunt) died, because he was a big part of my aunt's and cousins' life even if that was mostly negative.
