Hee! My roommate/best friend is applying to law schools, and he asked my opinion on his early-decision school and mentioned UChicago, and I said he should pick that one because "my 'Supernatural' boyfriend went there." He looked at me like that was a weird reason or something. (But he did pick it!)

Has this replaced Indiana Jones as the UChi pop culture of choice? Because that's part of the reason I picked it. Unfortunately the general level of hotness is significantly below Misha-levels. Anyway, good luck to your friend. It's a great place to go to law school (even if the universe no longer has a positive demand for attorneys and many of us are considering lucrative futures in beet farming and goat herding.)

Ha! I think it has! Amongst cool people, anyway. He has a maniacally organized list of schools, and he's from Chicago and loves it, so that's the main choice right now. (And he just got a few steps closer in convincing me to come out there with him with this decision, really. I'm a devoted fangirl.)

I'm so uncool I didn't know he was an alum until this secret.

I'm a west coaster so it was a bit of an adjustment, but it's a pretty cool place to live. I picked it over NY partially because the cost of living is reasonable and there's still lots of stuff to do. (And, okay, partially because of Ira Glass, too...)

Not Indiana Jones or Misha, for me. I have to admit, it was totally Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG-1 who did it. My favorite archaeologist, and he went to UChicago for grad school. ;)

Of course, there were other reasons. Still, definitely one of the ways UChicago even made it onto my radar (and it's certainly one of the reasons why I'm considering an Anthropology major with an archaeology concentration). Man, fandom, what do you do to me?

Ranking someone other than Indiana Jones as your favorite fictitious archaeologist is a sort of sacrilege, but I'll let it pass this time. I started out as an anth major with an archaeology focus. Sort of wish I'd stayed in that field, even though I wouldn't have gone on to the PhD. Telling someone you're an "archaeologist" is a lot sexier than telling someone you're an "English major" even if you're a glorified office secretary.

(Also I frequently let fandom make decisions for me. Has not really failed me yet.)
