That happened because trolls got in and started havoc in the comm, and even now, a lot of them seem eager to get in and ruin the fun. I'm sorry that you didn't get to join in time, OP, but the mods have assured us that when the drama dies down, they will open membership up again. We hate that the actions of a vicious few are dictating our actions, but for now, we have to take precautions like this. :(
