Toenails are in a very different environment to fingernails - they're constantly rubbed so it's pretty common for them to be noticeably thicker than your fingernails in the first place, and to continue to thicken as you get older. If they're shiny and not crumbly or yellow at all, you probably don't have a fungal infection, but they still sometimes separate from the toenail bed and appear much thicker. If your fingernails are thin and dull, you may have a mineral deficiency (iron, calcium, magnesium and/or zinc).
