Yeah I'm confused on this too as someone who is great at platformers but sucks at music/rhythm games. They really aren't comparable for multiple reasons.

I guess something like Super Meat Boy feels like you’re dealing with the sort of precisely timed inputs you’d get in a rhythm game? But I think a more central example of platformers would be Super Mario Bros, and that’s not rhythmic in quite the same way.
