100% agreed. I liked later Spike, and I do ship him and Buffy. But he was best as a villain.

Yesssssssssss. Spike and Dru, one of the few f/m 'ships I was 100% behind.
Canon Spike is pretty cool and has some awesome moments, but I think a curated selection of fandom Spike is really more my favorite.
But I will still sit and rewatch Spike-heavy Buffy eps, because....Spike! :D

I thought they were a really interesting messed up couple, but think they are great examples of characters that should be used sparingly. Too much and it kind of ruins the characters imo, particularly for Spike. Part of that is I just can't stand the actor though.

You are sooo right op. Spike/Drusilla was ABSOLUTELY the best ship from that show and Spike's characterization, wasn't ALL bad after we lost that ig but it was never anywhere near as fun again.

Oh no... sorry, OP, but for me, these two were a snoozefest. Just two stock villains without much depth beyond being evil goth kids who were in luuurve. Spike became much more interesting to me when Drusilla dumped him.

This is weird to me. Like, as villains they might have been stock, but as a couple, not at all. Spike was the typical macho villain in his first episode except that he also clearly adored Drusilla, followed her lead, let her call the shots. And that dynamic between them continued. That's unusual.
