Well that makes a lot of sense.

I know it's horrible, but I've seen a lot of slashy shipping Monk secrets lately so I thought it might have been over another pairing, rather than actual canonic reasons why they wouldn't be a good couple

Since so very often the Main Potential Het Pairing shippers and Main Potential Slash shippers hate each other half the time.

Well, I can't speak for the OP and his or her reasons, but those would be mine. The way I see the show, there's really no main ship whether you favor het or slash. On the other hand, I'm not involved in any fandom for the show, so maybe within the fandom, there are favored pairings, but just as a regular viewer, I don't see any. Not with Monk himself anyway.
