Not that I read fic anymore, but when I did... yeah.

Whenever people post things like that I comment to tell them how immature they are for doing that. In a nice way, of course. It actually usually works and they'll update on a timely basis without holding off new chapters in exchange for reviews.

Totally agreed. I mean, I always get all D: about not getting reviews, but holding your fic hostage just to get them is just... bleh. Repulsive.

I definitely agree. Seeing that on a fic makes me want to stop reading it, not review it!

Same here. Sometimes I give in to pity party comment whoring if I really like the fic, but if the writer sets a quota, there's no fucking way I'm reviewing that shit.

Ugh, I agree. That's lame. It's one thing to request constructive criticism, but that just plain feels like needing attention.

Nothing turns me off a fic more than begging. Seriously, I have fics that a popular, and fics that are totally ignored. But I don't write them because of how many reviews I get. I write them because it's a story I want to write. You're right, it really does come off as attention whoring.

I value every single review I get because they're unsolicited and because of that, I think (and hope) they're honest. Forcing your readers to stroke your ego in such a way is just vulgar. (Although, would she continue if she did get 10+ reviews, but they were negative?)

Because I've seen the "REVIEW PLZ" and the "IF I DON'T GET MORE REVIEWS I WON'T CONTINUE" but that one is pretty... uh... wow.

I don't review. I PM them a nasty comment calling them stupid little attention whores who can't write for shit, because the kind that do that always have the writing ability of a gnat with four broken legs.

This. It seriously pisses me off when people do that. Pretty much one of the main reasons I only write oneshots.

Oh my god this. I'm reading a chapter fic right now that I'm really enjoying but I refuse to review it because the girl has something exactly like this after each chapter.

I agree. I'm a reader who will usually leave at least a paragraph picking out things I like from a chapter or story. But if they got the "hostage" route, I refuce to give in. It's actually worked against several authors who would otherwise get great compliments from me.

When I come across a particularly shitty story with one of those idiotic review quotas on it, I've been know to leave a nasty comment asking that it *not* be updated. I know it's mean, but posting those makes the "writer" sound like an attention-whoring little twerp.

omg I agree so hard. I especially hate it when they're like "C'MON GUYS REVIEW PLEASE I NEED TO KNOW PEOPLE WANT MORE" or when they get mad at readers for not reviewing because they just sound like desperate attention hogs. It makes me not want to review them at all, even if they write really well.

If you're not writing cause you like to, what's the point? I understand being a tad concerned if you've posted many chapters and nobody has shown signs of reading, but even then, if you keep updating but ask your readers to speak up they usually will. Geez.

Srsly, you have to write just because you love it. If you won't do it without a certain # of reviews, you're just pathetic and I want nothing to do with your cry for attention.
