Unfortunately the LotR fandom isn't alive much anymore, but the parts of it that are still around are awesome. Don't be scared of the LotR fandom, it wasn't ever bad.

There's sometimes a divide between the hardcore Tolkienites who have read all of his books and those who are only interested in LOTR and the movies. Other than that, the fandom is pretty chill now that the movie hype is long over.

Also asking why? I mean, a lot of the batshit crazy fans left in 2004 after the Oscars, and the nice fans who love Tolkien's works for what they are- many of us include love of PJ's films in there- are left behind in a magical world of wonderfulness.
