I must disagree, they were canon to an extent.

Since the show can be summed up in essentially three parts 1) Mystical-power anime 2) War/strategic anime 3) Highschool anime. I believe he had girls for each part of the series the first being C.C., The second being Kallen, and the third being Shirley. Hate these or not these conclusions can be easily drawn. The rest of the pairings subtext and all are merely fanservice.

One can say he cared for Kallen the most as he always kept her at the furthest distance in the end: "If you want to protect something keep it far away"

But he did the same thing for Nunnally, and one wouldn't argue a romantic attachment there. (Well, most people wouldn't, anyway.)

IMO he cared deeply for all three girls you mentioned, but wasn't really in love with any of them -- or you could say he loved all of them but differently, because, as you mentioned, each of them held a different special meaning in different parts of his life.

He didn't choose that for Nunally though, Nunally chose that herself. In the end he didn't try to keep her away as he did Kallen.

Maybe not a romantic one, but I don't care if you're trying to be an ego-maniacal jerk to the world. You don't dress your sister up in a loli red dress without some sort of sister complex.

Well I have to give you that, after all this whole series was always up for the fans' interpretation. Essays could be written on the dynamics of the series, unfortunately it will only be remembered for the pairings and not what would truly be behind them.

I disagree. He lied to Kallen and told her he was using her the whole time when the Black Knights turned on him; in just the same way, he pretended not to care about Nunnally at all when he Geassed her to give him the Key of Damocles and walked off without looking back. In order to protect them from being dragged along on his chosen path of damnation, he pushed them both away.

And... yeah, I have to concede the siscon thing. (Oh Lelouch.)

Ah, but the problem with that is, I think, he's more worried that she could stop him, much like Euphemia almost stopped his Black Knight campaign. He had no intention of using Geass on her until she essentially said she had the same plan. If he truly would've lied to protect her he wouldn't have had that conversation with her. No second thought would occur to using Geass on her. Though damnation is a strong word, one could see it as redemption, but that's opening a whole new can of worms)

I must agree. Maybe in like fifty years they'll deconstruct the story, but until then fandom is saying "I wants these two guys to have sex 'cuase I like it that way!!!111!!!one"
