Gonna be honest with you, OP, from another ace person. It's not because you're ace. It's because you make a point of saying it bothers you.

I mostly read gen-fic, and fix-it fic, and literally no one cares when I'm all 'yeah, nah, I don't really read ship fic, I'd rather read about so-and-so fixing this thing from canon' or 'yeah, that pairing ain't my cup of tea, but this found family time travel fic is AMAZING'.

It's when you start going 'ugh, I hate how much of fandom is all about the sex' that people get their backs up and get snappy.

IDEK. Basically, focus on what you like to read, look at, and don't put other people down, and fandom goes pretty smoothly. You get out of fandom the energy you put into it.

There's plenty of internet trolls that see that someone is disgusted or uncomfortable with something and post it to them because they think it's funny to do that, too.

If OP had said they hate feet and it's gross, someone out there will send them feet.

I’ll be honest, this was my first less-than-charitable thought. That OP is maybe sex-repulsed and not conscious of how they express it or how bluntly they’re “yucking other people’s yum”.

But even if that’s true, this sounds like really shitty behavior from other fans.

Oh, absolutely. But that's why I said you get out what you put in. In that sense, just don't mention you hate feet. Almost no one is just going to send them to you if they don't know.

I can only operate off of what the secret says, but the whole 'when I say I'm uncomfortable' has a lot of missing information in it. To use your feet example, if you go on a site where it's common to love feet and you're all 'it's uncomfortable how many of you love feet', well, obviously you're going to get some backlash.

Though I do wonder if OP is coming into shipping spaces with that attitude. Showing up on a discord for a popular ship and going 'ugh, I hate the sex' is always going to go poorly, whether that's in difficulty making friends (which is not shitty, if people don't want to be friends with someone making comments like that) or in being spammed with what they hate (which is shitty).

I think OP should maybe just take a look at themself and how they handle themself in fandom first. If everyone they encounter is the problem, then they're the problem in the equation.

People suck and no one should do that to OP. But it’s predictable behavior and OP can easily guard against it. I can’t remember ever talking about things I don’t like in my fandoms and neither does anyone else; we’re there to talk about what we do like. And if someone else comes along into our space to shit all over what we like, we wouldn’t be happy.
