I suspect this is supposed to make me feel with and root for Via, but it’s just convinced me she’s either incredibly stupid or incredibly self-centered.

Her parents have always despised each other, to the point that Stella publicly talked about hating Stolas’ scrawny ass at a society party, even before Stolas started his affair and demanded a divorce. No way did the events of the show shatter an illusion of a happy family for her.

Stolas has recently been kidnapped and badly injured – at least the injuries are public knowledge, since we see cameras in front of the hospital entrance.

He has been stripped of his power and position, which has been broadcast.

He has been trying to call Via for a month, and Stella forbids her from taking his calls and we and Via see her mock Stolas’ trying to contact Via.

But when Via finds anti-depressants in his things, she makes it all about herself, because what could Stolas possibly be depressed about if not faking love for her, and breaks into a faux-liberating, self-victimizing song about how Stolas is such a liar, doesn’t call, and she doesn’t need him.

This inability to see Stolas as a person who has been stuck in an at least verbally/emotionally abusive marriage for years and been through trauma and loss recently and deserves her sympathy and support in favor of reducing him to the role of father with no feelings, problems, or limitations of his own, would be okay if Via were 7 years old, not 17.

Fuck that selfish little bird brat. I don’t care she’s got teenage angst. If she were a halfway decent person, she’d distance herself from her mother and uncle, not blame her father. S!B how dare I hate on a literal child.

Yeah... I have a friend who is, shall we say, not the best at financial decisions and multiple times she has come to me to help her set a budget because she spends more money than she makes. Each time I tell her to dump the multiple streaming services and each time she says she NEEDS them. I told her I would pirate whatever she wanted when she wanted if she would just stop paying money she doesn't have for access to stuff she can't even keep. But no.

People like this cannot be helped. Like look, even if you need access to your favorite shows for mental health reasons, ask yourself honestly: is it going to help your mental health if you can't pay rent and end up homeless or living with friends/relatives? Will going without food or electricity damage your mental health also? Do you think those things will be easier to bear or harder to bear than the potential loss of streaming services?

There are websites where you can stream a lot of stuff for free. They're not always reliable, but THEY'RE FREE. That means you don't even need to download stuff.

In OP's defense, they did also mention people living above their means - those means could easily be greater than average or greater than most, even, and they can still be living above them. Tons of people do, unfortunately. :(
