I hate how Mattel has intentionally rebranded American Girl as a flashy luxury toy brand aimed at (*mostly white) rich conspicious-consumption yoga-and-coffee type moms to buy for their kids as a sparkly gender-conforming status symbol, rather than an educational toy brand aimed at parents who want their kids to play with something of genuine yet understated quality that will teach them something about the world thy live ihn and the way it used to be.
