I basically only read horror. Here are my recs that I read in 2025.

When the Wolf Comes Home by Nat Cassidy
The Hike by Drew Magary (only kind of horror)
Suffer the Children by Craig DiLouie
Blackwater Saga by Michael McDowell if you want an epic
Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle

From previous years.
NOS4A2 by Joe Hill
Anything by Grady Hendrix or T Kingfisher
Song for the Unraveling of the World by Brian Evenson, Mouthful of Birds by Samanta Schweblin, Out There Screaming edited by Jordan Peele, and Never Whistle At Night edited by Shane Hawk for anthologies.

Definitely try her other books! Seven Empty Houses isn't really horror but is great. And Fever Dream is phenomenal.

Simone St. James, The Haunting of Maddy Clare (she's written a lot of spooky, gothic stuff that's pretty good)
Joe Hill, Heart-Shaped Box
Alison Littlewood, The Unquiet House
Sarah Waters, The Little Stranger
Laura Purcell, The Silent Companions
Sarah Rayne, The Bell Tower (I've read a few of her books and liked them, but can't remember the specific ones so I just chose one at random)
