Now this is a secret! Man, I don't know about LJ, but mention her name on TWoP and it's knives out.

Simple. Jacob hates her.

Ugh, I loathed his recaps and the influence his opinions had over the forums (and if the rumor is true, over the Chief's "smells like cabbage" speech). Grrr.

Oh what rumor is that? That the speech was paying lip service to Jacob?

I can't really comment though, because I've only seen up the beginning of season three so far and have never been active in the fandom. But so far I like her, too.

I never had a problem with her. I think that she, like a lot of the supporting cast, kind of got shortchanged, but she was good with what she had.

I think she's great, too. It annoys me so much how people always put her down. :(

I'm not the OP (I wear my love of Cally pretty loudly), but:

She bit part of a man's ear off.
She's smart and snarky and feisty.
She wanted to be a dentist!
When Tyrol panics, she smacks sense into him. (Valley of Darkness)
She's adorable.
She never stopped being true to herself and her ideals.
She plays with vipers and raptors and other flying things.

Makes sense.

I - felt sorry for her? But I never actually *liked* her.

OTOH, I loved Chief, even when I found out he was a Cylon. So you know. Taste is random and arbitrary. *G*

I will admit, I liked her a lot in the first two seasons, especially right after the ear biting and the med-kit mission. Then again, I liked pretty much everyone in the first two seasons. I don't think the level of hate is appropriate in later seasons, even the writers were dumping on her.

I've never had an issue with Cally, I actually always liked her and felt a little sympathetic towards her (ESPECIALLY in the last season).
I think a lot of the hate is because she shot Boomer. Because, you know, it didn't matter Boomer shot Adama because Cally shot Boomer because she's a MEAN JEALOUS H0R OMG!

Oh, class, can you guess I don't like Boomer?

She's my favorite character, too. =)
I also haven't met the BSG fandom, though.

Why? (I'm actually curious). I thought she was fine for a long time, but I didn't like how they wrote her when they increased her role after New Caprica. I sort of empathized with her, but couldn't get over the fact that she was written to be whiney and didn't like her total freakout near the end. I didn't harbor the frothy hatred that BSG watching group did, but I definitely didn't think the writers were doing her character any favors.

I liked her a lot, too! Since I like to draw a lot of parallels between BSG and Macross (and there are so many I'm beginning to think it's not coincidental), I considered her the "Shammy" of the show, LOL

Apparently Rymer wanted to get rid of her in the first season but he decided to keep her around after the episode with the prison ship (Tom Zareck's first appearance). I'm really glad, because BSG really needed a "cute" character in my opinion.

Also, I hate what happened to her.

I've never hated Cally-- she's constantly been one of my favourites. I didn't agree with her actions in Season 4, but I enjoyed her character.

I liked Cally a lot too. I thought she was, overall, very sweet and that her actions in season 4 were at least partially understandable. I felt bad for her a lot of the time, but I thought she had very understandable and human reactions.

*nods* I like Cally. I just wish fandom in general didn't seem to hate her so much.

I love Callie so much. The transformation of her character through the series was the single most heartbreaking thing for me. Just watching life devour here like that. *wibble* I was relieved when she died. I was just glad she didn't have to suffer any more.

Man, now I feel guilty for not keeping

Word up, secret poster. Cally was the reason I watched the show. I even stopped watching after they killed her, and didn't catch up until much later.

Yes, she got 'whiny' and broke down in S4. So did a lot of characters. And really... it was realistic, after the ringer they put her through.

CALLY! I adore her and think she's pretty awesome!

I really don't understand why the hatred for her is so damned strong in this fandom. I get that some people just never warmed up to her, but I can't figure out what she ever did that makes people get so angry at her. :-/

I'm still mad at the writers for ret-conning Nicky's parentage...
