It took me a while to see it, but hell's bells, Trudy, Paul really is oddly hot. He's so big and earthy and the looks he gives Peggy and his mixture of seething resentment and respect....I dig it.

Peggy is far too good for him. Although that could be because Peggy is far too good for everyone.

I... don't see it. I think Peggy's too good for any of the men she works with, though she's obviously not above getting her needs met where she can. I could see a mutually beneficial relationship there (a quiet arrangement with some companionship plus as much sex as they need with separate lives, separate apartments) and that alone would make Pete flip his shit, but I can't see them having a real, serious, or long-term relationship. He just doesn't respect her enough.

I kind of felt like he was starting to respect her more this season. Especially in the episode where they were trying to come up with copy for an ad and Paul forgot his idea because he didn't write it down. When Peggy totally saves him in the meeting and comes up with something brilliant that Don loves, I think that was the moment when Paul realized she was better than he was. And, I suppose things could grow from there. Still not sure I ship it, but it is interesting.

Oh, I definitely think he respects her more than he used to (because any respect is an increase over no respect at all) but so has Don. Even Pete respects her professionally now. But even if Paul is willing to admit to himself that Peggy is as good or better at her job than he is, that's a far cry from accepting that in a relationship. He would still earn more but the fact that she was better would be emasculating. He buys into traditional gender roles too much to be comfortable with not being better than his girlfriend/wife in every non-domestic capacity and his new-found regard for her isn't enough to overcome that. Duck Phillips has been the only man to court her on her own terms because he's older, more established, and successful, so admitting she's very talented isn't a threat to him. I suppose I just don't see Peggy in a traditional relationship until Second Wave really takes off and she'd be able to hold onto the things that are important to her and might actually meet a guy who was okay with that.
