I agree. I finally watched this series this spring and it was a bit of a disappointment cause it follows a sailor moon type formula through the entire thing. I liked it well enough, but I was appreciating it for what it was. A formulaic 90s shoujo anime.

It's directed by the same guy who directed Sailor Moon and the directorial style is the same, but I don't really see how it's anything like Sailor Moon beyond that, seriously.

Well that sure explains alot. I'm not saying plot wise it is similar, but it is VERY formulaic just like SM was. Every episode had the same format. And the way that very little happens in each episode. Instead of a new badguy a week, its a battle a week. The fact that the director is the same explains all that very well though. I never thought to check.

And you have an icon of it? I know it's the movie, but ???

I didn't say I didn't like it. I LOVE Sailor Moon, and the formula it followed. I also enjoyed Utena, despite the repeativity of it. It's a good series. I was just saying I found it tedious to watch, like Sailor moon was alot of the time. The fact that they have the same director explains why the format was so similar though.

Okay, sensible enough. And I imagine watching it all fairly close together would be pretty tiresome.

...Formulaic? Anon thinks it only looked like that on the surface. Its point was to deconstruct a lot of tropes.
