Well, he did wait around for her like a lovesick puppy. :P I agree that the way Rose treated him was pretty crappy, but if he wasn't so spineless, he would have ditched her sometime in the middle of S1, instead of (literally) running to her like a puppy every time she came home. It's not like her feelings for the Doctor weren't completely obvious. (Mickey did eventually grow a spine, thankfully, even if it took him about ten times as long as it should have.)

LOL, that is true. I think I have a larger issue with other characters being written to cater to Rose, or highlight her supposed, 'specialness'. And that SO many exceptions and excuses are made for her craptastic behavior.

Sorry, but...when did this happen? The show had fallout for her for every crappy thing she did.

*different anon here* And not only that (I'm agreeing with you) but in the long run, Mickey was better for it as well. Neither one of them could really get anywhere with their lives while getting their codependency all over each other. Rose started the process, and once Mickey took that ball and ran with it as well, he became a defender of the universe™.

DA: There is a real case to be made for Rose being treated as special and above the rules by the writers, I agree. Look at the Doctor's reaction to her actions in Father's Day as opposed to how he reacted to Adam in S1.

Rose's character also hovered over all of Martha's season. She was able to cross from the alternate dimension that had been described as permanently closed, is the only companion jealous of the others, is given her own version of the Doctor when Donna can't even think of him or die. And so on.

Yeah, it's not like Sarah Jane in School Reunion was jealous at all. (Not to mention Martha during season 3.)

Fine, I misspoke. She is the most habitually jealous companion, however.

Maybe so. How exactly does that make her above the rules again?

The Doctor did have a bit of a blind spot for Rose, but the Doctor =/= the writers, and I never thought the audience was supposed to think she was THE MOST SPESHUL COMPANION EVAR. It's mostly just the haters who call her a Mary Sue and then in the same breath start listing all her faults (which, um, rather contradicts the definition of a Mary Sue) that seem to think she was treated as such.

I disagree with the Adam vs. Father's Day thing. She effed up, yes, but come on - how many people would honestly be able to watch their father die rather than save him when they had the chance? It's not like there weren't consequences, at least initially. Moreover, Rose had to express genuine remorse before the Doctor fixed everything - she had to learn a lesson AND her motivations were understandable, if misguided.

In Adam's case he was motivated by pure selfishness and personal ambition, and there was no indication he'd behave any differently if given a second chance. I just don't see how the two situations can be compared when they're so completely different.
