There was a time when I was following maybe 10 running mangas on scanlation sites before they would come to the US (and yes, I bought and still buy the volumes in English).

I'm now down to two series that I HAVE to read as soon as I can. They're both fairly popular in Japan and the States. And yet neither have had recent chapters scanslated for ages. I'm like 6 months behind on both. What happened?

TL:DR OP is butthurt that pirates won't spend their own time and money to give them their hit of new manga updates.

Just speaking for myself, but I got tired of entitled, whiny shitheads bugging me about when I was going to be releasing the next chapter of whatever.

I'm doing this for fun because I want to share a thing that I love with people who can't read Japanese. I'm not getting paid for it. I have other priorities in my life that are more important than translating. The chapters will get released on MY schedule, and getting all up in my DMs to ask me when the next one will be done is not going to make it happen any faster.

Now I just enjoy reading the manga for myself without having to worry about other people whining at me. Life is good.

I totally get it. I have done volunteer stuff online, and the super entitled, demanding people really wear you down over time. Like, I'm doing this on my own time, no one is paying me for it, it's just ME doing it to help out others. The demands and complaining when you are late, or do something that they don't like, is just exhausting. The ratio of whining to gratitude is always way too out of whack.

It is. And I totally get people being excited for the next chapter of something, but they need to remember that scanlating IS entirely a volunteer thing. If I were actually being paid to translate, then yeah, I'd be getting it out way more quickly. As it is, it's just something I'm doing for fun. And when you start badgering me about when the next chapter is going to be released, that's when it stops being fun.

Just wanted to say thank you for your service.

And that I personally never nag anyone about this (and wouldn't dream of doing so), I just made this one secret on F!S.

(With the help of Secret Maker. Thanks, Secret Maker!)

Ooof, it's gotta be hard when you're volunteering your time and work to do translations.

TBH I always found translators in fandoms to be the unsung heroes. Never thought to approach any of them to ask or demand for when the new content will be released. Do you nonny, you don't awesome anyone anything, and your peace of mind matters.

People moved to web comics, slowpoke.
