They would be, but also way more generic and boring overall. Warrior prince characters are a dime a dozen. Calysto also gets WAY more boring as a guy just cause there's so goddamn many of that exact same 'traumatized insane blond aggro guy' archetype.

Ares the Goddess of War being jealous and annoyed of her brother and always trying to kill him would get more interesting though.

Are there that many former warlords genuinely trying to make up for their past crimes though? As the main character? The closest I can think of is Zuko.

Depending on how strictly you define warlord, yeah? Repentant hero with a dark past is common and a male character trying to make up for their mistakes and ultimately being forgiven (ofc) is 1000x more common than female characters doing the same thing

BtVS had a bunch of these and Angel was literally That, the Show
