Wow. I just discovered that NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) has shut down. The organization behind it closed up shop after their controversies with having a pedophile on staff and supporting the use of AI in writing. I don't know that I was ever going to do it again, but it makes me genuinely sad that the website is gone. It's truly the end of an era to me.

Oh, wow. I've never participated in NaNo myself, but a lot friends did back in fandom days. I didn't realize it wasn't a thing anymore.

Happily, NaNo2.org is a thing.

This was the first time in 20+ years I haven't participated. I had no idea.

Was planning to do it, but being a government employee and not getting paid for 6 weeks while continuing to work just put a dampener on the whole thing.

Six weeks vacation should have left you with more than enough time to write, taking pictures of your feet only takes a few minutes out of your day for cash.

Maybe you need a vacation to work on your reading comprehension.

This reply made me laugh.

Also: sorry about your "vacation" time, that really sucks.

Ah fuck it. It used to clog up all my feeds during my favorite month of the year.

November is for pretty leaves, turkey, and MY BIRTHDAY! Not a desperate contest of people shitting out their worst work so they could finally write something decent after they got it all out.

November birthday high five! o/\o

Yeah, I remember reading about it on Tumblr. Younger writers being targeted had apparently been a problem for years, but it was the AI controversy that was the final nail in the coffin.

From what I've seen, people have either been doing it as a solo challenge or taking part in fandom based versions of NaNoWriMo.
