Health TMI

(Anonymous) 2025-11-23 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I got a pap smear in August and it was fine. But for the past 30+ days I've had breakthrough bleeding (on the same birth control for 10 years). I talked to my general doctor about and she seemed unconcerned. But I don't know if I should contact my gyno about it.

don't think it would hurt to consult your gyno. Totally a valid reason to consult them.

Yes, please contact your gyno! Definitely don't just let it go. It may be nothing, but if it's NOT nothing, you're much better off finding out now. And if it's nothing this will also give you peace of mind. You won't have it in the back of your head, bothering you.

Definitely go see a gyno. 30+ days is a LOT, I'm kinda shocked your doctor isn't taking this more seriously.

I'm not saying you're in immediate danger or anything but please do get checked out. Your hormones could be out of whack and you're gonna want some help with that if so. And you definitely don't want to find out your BC is no longer working...

There are a ton of things that can cause breakthrough bleeding (and other symptoms) that wouldn't show up on a pap smear. You should totally talk to your gyno.

For the record, my endometriosis caused breakthrough bleeding on every birth control I tried.

Yeah, contact the gyno. Most likely you just need different birth control, but that's something you want to know about now, not when it fails. And if it is anything serious, you want to catch it immediately.
