Bait and switch personalities, followed by "I was really this way all along!" when there were little to no clues along the way. Wildly inconsistent characterization in general.

But honestly, I'd probably end up hating the writer more for writing them that way, unless that was the point, and it was actually done well and in a way that made sense for both the plot and history.
