People talk about Luffy being canonically ace a lot, but personally I find Zoro a far better example.

With Luffy, there's his immature, childlike personality that can be and is used to argue that it's just a matter of him growing up more. But Zoro is already depicted as a mature and (mostly) serious adult while having ZERO moments of romantic or sexual attraction to anyone.

B!S: I think Oda saying Luffy was just imitating Usopp during the Bon Clay and bath scenes in Alabasta is a retcon. One I like but the writing of these scenes just doesn't support it.

I like your take and have accepted it into my own headcanon.

Genuine question, don't most of the characters display no romantic or sexual interest?

D: Doesn't anyone on Luffy's crew fall in love? Will there never be a tale of on-board romance? (Sanji is an exception in this case) I'm just wondering. -From Naoko-

O: But they do... They're all in love...

WITH ADVENTURE. (← good one)

Ehh, sometimes kinda, almost always played for jokes.

For example, there's this whole joke where Khalifa is so sexy that even Nami wishes she had a sexy secretary like her - and then scolds herself for thinking like a pervy old man. Robin is flirty with at least Jimbei, and I think maybe Brook and Franky as well. Franky kissed the vacuum lady in his man-off against Senior Pink. Brook is a bit of a perv even aside his panties gag (but less than Sanji), Usopp peeped at the girls in the Alabasta bath and got knocked out by Nami's happiness punch, Chopper has a crush on a Mink and Sanji is Sanji. Luffy had two moments of gawking at Nami's naked body, but those have later been explained by the author as Luffy just copying Usopp for funsies.

Zoro really is the only one with absolutely no scenes of any romantic or sexual interest (or even awareness), not even as a joke.

good breakdown. I think the jury's still out on Jinbei because he's so new to the crew but that's a pretty comprehensive read of canon.

I still won't call Zoro a-anything because there's always a chance Oda will throw in a moment later on (as some of the moments e.g. Nami and Franky took a long time to finally get to) but I've also written reams of ZoSan fic. He has a lot of personality qualities that mean when he wants to, he will go, but so far the story itself hasn't shown him with any compatible chances. He's swordsexual, we all know that. While he wasn't interested in Komurasaki herself, it was perhaps the first step - someone he respects highly and can fight as an equal would be his chance.

I've been a ZoLu shipper for 20+ years, so I totally get how our mosshead's personality is very well suited to a variety of shippy and smutty dynamics.

I do agree that in a sliding scale of "definitely not ace" to "most likely to be ace", canon Zoro is on the far end of that scale. There might be a cheesy epilogue where Zoro ends up with someone, but I really hope not and I don't see it happening in the main story at all, tbh.

you are so right actually, I'm adopting this into my headcanons, ty.
