Are you a food sharer?

(Anonymous) 2025-12-05 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll let someone use a clean fork to try my food but nothing beyond that. Not even with my closest family members.

If it's someone I already live with and share everything else with, no prob. Anyone else, nah.

More broadly, sharing food when everyone agreed to it beforehand = fine and dandy. Someone picking things off my plate without warning gets asked what the fuck they think they're doing. Double so if they were asked if they wanted some before I cooked or ordered, said no, then started eating. Fuck all the way off!

I'm open to it, but with clean utensils. Like I'll put a spoonful of whatever on someone else's plate if they express interest but I don't just feed them from my spoon or let them dig a fork (that's already been in their mouth) into my food. I might be a little more relaxed with family members but even then, nah. Especially not post-COVID and during cold and flu season.

If its food that's made to be shared, so like tapas or Asian restaurants where the dishes are shared, then sure! That's fine.

If it's single plates then no one is allowed to touch it unless I offer it up, which I probably will but do not touch it before then.

I share drinks (bottles, cans, glasses) with close friends and family all the time but wouldn't share utensils unless absolutely necessary. Then again I eat with chopsticks most of the time so it wouldn't be a problem.
Snacks like crisps and candy are a no-brainer, of course I'll share.

yes. But I'll do halves if I like the food. No more than 50% for you!

I think I don’t have a strong disgust response in general.

Anyone I’m friendly with, I’m happy to share food, including using “dirty” utensils to take things from my plate or taking bites from the same thing.

But I do need people to ask. Just grabbing food doesn’t feel gross, but it does feel very rude.

I am ok with using clean utensils to share a small amount of food with someone who wants to try something. I am ok with sharing/eating directly with my boyfriend. However, the key is to always ask. Anyone just trying to grab something off my plate may have a fork stuck in their hand.

If my family PLANS on sharing something, or if I offer something, then if you live in the same house I do, sure.

But I have to offer, you can't ask.

Nachos/fries I'd share with my best friend, but like, our first shared plate of nachos was over twenty years ago at this point, certain privileges have been earned.

I don't mind sampling among friends but I am sick of family-style ordering. I want to order the specific thing I want and eat it myself.

Yeah I love sharing food and I am fearless about sharing a fork

JOEY DOESN'T SHARE!!!

But seriously, sharing food has always been a thing in my culture (Asian), so I usually offer others a bite or two of my food. I would never grab someone's food and eat it before asking, and I expect the same from others.
As I've gotten older, I do find myself being a little less mindful of sharing. Sometimes I feel bad about it, but I do remind myself that it's OK that I'm not always thinking about others and doing everything to put their needs and comfort before my own.
