Most of the whining I've seen has been the pitiably few SGU fans on the SyFy forums, Gateworld, Scalzi's blog, and in comments on all the reviews. "It's just a television show, don't take it so serious" usually with several spelling errors.

This is the reason for most of the hate directed towards SGU, seeing as most fans do not posses your ~superior~ analytical skills. However, because SGU actually is an entertaining series in its own right, in spite of its flaws, I predict that it will develop its own following. Its ratings have been been steadily good, so I'm not pulling this out of my ass.

The question is, are you going to be a smug, elitist douchebag about it?

I disagree with the anon you replied to, though. Criticize away. But when you cross over from criticizing the show itself to implying that people who like it are stupid? You've gone straight into Fan Dumb elitism.

Some one is missing the "I didn't like SGA canon" portion of my original comment, and nobody is noticing the fact I've yet to mention SG-1 at all (it was tedious). TV Tropes is a collection of observations of greater or lesser usefulness, but the one you picked is not apropos to what I've written. I dislike SGU as a thing in itself, most particularly on its hodgepodge of Macguffins in place of cohesive story structure, and on its glacially slow pacing. It has all of the weaknesses of the Stargate franchise with none of the sugar coating that made the earlier iterations moderately tolerable.

I don't need to say anything about the intelligence of people who like SGU; they demonstrate it quite well in every comment.
