I know you can get a lot of Japanese ghost/monster stories from anime but there's so much untapped Asian potential across the board. More snakes, be they Yamata no Orochi or naga or whatever, even Mayan Kukulcan type winged snakes. Also, Egyptian and Assyrian mythology has creatures yet to be explored, skip mummies let's go ancient cults raising crocodile gods please.

I'm iffy on wendigo, though, I think enough first nations have come out asking people not to misinterpret their legends that I have to give it a pass unless sanctioned. Now, a story produced by native creators with full permission? I bet it would have takes on it far more interesting than the gross way X-Files introduced the idea to pop culture.
