A lot of isekai anime, especially in recent years, has a lot of RPG mechanics as part of the story . As in the character can literally pull up their stats screen to see their strength, wisdom, dexterity, etc, and the world they are now in is more or les a fantasy RPG.

Most of the stories usually centre around a protagonist who has a skill or power that is determined to be worthless or useless or generally undesirable, only to find out that actually the skill is the best power and allows the protagonist to become essentially overpowered and unstoppable. As if you were cheating in a video game or installed a mod that allowed you to be overpowered and unstoppable.

That's the connection.

Huh. That is an interesting connection that I would not have made, thank you for the explanation!

That feels like a big stretch. But I guess part of that is because I only read western isekai and while the MC always ends up overpowered like in any fantasy novel, there’s nothing cheat-like about it.

I meant a big stretch on OP’s part, not yours! Thank you for explaining this.

as someone who was a young fan when Fushigi Yuugi was big, I hate this.
