I know nothing about Danganronpa except the murdering, but I was a scholarship kid and the rich kids being the top of the heap was absolutely true where I went to school. I wasn't even from a poor family, just at the lower end of middle class.

However! In Japan, academic prowess is incredibly highly valued, and kids who did well in that system (whether or not they were actually brilliant or just good at test taking) were in fact feted and considered the ideal. Not cool, but important. So for a Japanese game, I am absolutely willing to consider this correct.
