I went to a private school that had a lot of international students, and we had all sorts - wealth didn't define popularity, but whether you were any good at any kind of sport had an impact! I can't think of any one group who was genuinely the default "bottom of the heap"; the scholarship students in every House were generally seen as proof of that House's quality in the same way as a winning sports team record.
