When you have too many options so your brain chooses nothing

(Anonymous) 2025-12-14 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I am in that space where I have a million little things to do but my brain is overwhelmed with the idea of starting/choosing so instead I am doing nothing and browsing online. ADHD problems.

The really stupid cherry on top of the stupid brain sundae is that most of them are 'fun' chores. I have to finish a hat I am making for a holiday gift, I have to finish reading a book I'm in the middle of, I want to bake a pie and have all the ingredients ready for it, and then I have to wrap presents and do laundry which aren't as fun for me.

I'll get to them eventually, just gotta work through the brain goblins first.

Ugh, I feel this hardcore. Whenever I have multiple tasks to do, I struggle with prioritizing and deciding which one to do first. Sometimes it's an easy choice: start the laundry first because that takes awhile. But then what, do I vacuum, do I work on my budget, do I take out the trash, do I put up the clean laundry sitting in the basket, do I clean out my purse, etc etc etc. I just feel frozen and almost panicky because I don't know what I should do.

I feel called out.

Yesterday I was supposed to get ahead of my gift wrapping and writing gift cards, but I spent half the day doing laundry and taking forever to order Indian takeout. I even had to remind myself not to get caught up in a new blog idea I suddenly had a bunch of ideas about.

I got started, but then knocked out early evening and woke up in the middle of the night. I'm mostly done, but I didn't finish as much as I wanted.

It's because I break down the tasks into really specific steps and sometimes that is a process of its own, and it feels overwhelming so I procrastinate. Urg, getting better at it but is still a hard thing to break out of.
