I often end my Persona 5 play throughs around the end of Okumura's palace. I don't start out that way, I just lose motivation to continue because I genuinely cannot stand Akechi. I'm immediately at BEC levels whenever he's on screen and I do not want to have him on the team, not even in the back, not even knowing that I'll get rid of him soon enough.

I have never completed Royals because of this. I have four save files stuck around October/November that I just cannot force myself to continue, especially since Royals has more Akechi content and I'm not sure I can get true ending without making nice with the little fucker.

Ahh, finally, I'm not the only one who hates Akechi.

I'm not sure what is it about him I don't like. For all intents and purposes, his redemption story at the end is usually stuff I enjoy. I guess to me, it just came a little too late and he spent a good portion of game being a smarmy little bastard. Maybe it's my crotchety, "I'm not taking any sass from a teenager who thinks he's smarter than everyone" Old Woman Yells at Cloud mentality.

(I never played Royal, so I don't know if they improved his character arc or whatnot.)

Also Naoto still best detective.

Haha this is me too. I can finish the game at least but Akechi is just so cringy and lame, I can't take him seriously. I wish he wasn't in the game, he's a terrible antagonist and nothing about him is compelling.

I used to be utterly indefferent-to-mildly-annoyed by Vanilla P5 Akechi, but I have to admit his unhinged murder hobo schtick in the new stuff added in Royal endeared him to me. Not to the "new fave character!" levels, but I still find him so funny that I enjoy him a lot more, nowadays.

But I totally get you, OP. I was def not a fan of how I felt like the game was forcing me to feel bad for him, bad in vanilla-only days.
