I would go ahead and mute. If someone asks, simple say you have nothing against them and that you simply don't enjoy something or other for personal reasons. I also have someone I am otherwise ok with in the fandom but don't enjoy a trope they post. If anyone noticed, no one said anything.

Besides, if they do notice, and it's that much of an issue to them, you already have a plan B to leave.
