Besides both being cop partners, Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps and Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler also share my sentiments that even though I respect them being just friends, and love that....

Part of me guiltily ships them romantically.

It’s been nearly 15 years since I saw an episode but Benson and Stabler are still my OTP. I don’t feel as strongly about Judy and Nick but adore them as much as a couple as friends.

what impressed me about SVU, now that our binge-rewatch has passed season 14, is that they didn't even go there. no hints, no suggestions, no tease, and Eliot's wife didn't ever really show jealousy toward Olivia existing, they were even friends for a bit. in that era? fucking refreshing not to even consider using a ship tease for drama points when they were cribbing every other basic bitch drama trope (addict family members, gay kids, dark pasts).

which means shipping them fandomly is great. it's what fandom is for. ship with all your heart, OP!

Only knowing this character through fandom, my biggest surprise is that Unstabler could keep a marriage going.

I think the key was that he was basically never home so his wife never had to interact with him.

Ahh, the old military spouse set up.

Like, the great thing about establishing a male and female character, be they humans or talking animals, as being friends and partners, is that nine times out of ten it makes them SO much more shippable than any official couple a series has ever tried to push.

Disney never has to make it canon for it to be enjoyable. Just like none of my gay partner ships have ever had to be canon nor have I ever expected them to be! But if you give me two people who solve crimes, enjoy each other's company, spend enough time together getting in and out of danger, I'm probably gonna ship it.

I miss when it was more widely known and accepted that you could ship something and not want it to be canon.

Well, I think originally it was about wanting it to be canon, for the X-Files fandom where "shipping" as a fandom word originated. But it quickly evolved into just liking two characters together whether it was canon or whether you even wanted it to be or not.

Nothing to feel guilt about, op
