They may be a minority, but they're the only ones who talk about it. It's very telling where they choose to.

I'm not a shipper, so I don't really talk in fandom spaces concerned with shipping. But I talk about how much I prefer friendship over romance in most settings all the time. This isn't the first comment made here about the double standard between m/m and m/f ships vs. friendships and I almost always respond about how I like and prefer friendships over romances for both m/m and m/f pairings. But largely, comments like mine are brushed over because the whole
"why can't they just be friends" is only ever aimed at gay characters" belief is really, really strong. I've had conversations like this:

[in reference to two male characters]
Me: I prefer friendship to romance.
Other user: Homophobe! You're only saying that because you don't like gay romance! You wouldn't say that about a man and a woman.
Me: Yes, I would, and I have. I also prefer friendship to romance if the two people in question are man and woman.
Other user: [silence because my response doesn't fit their narrative/argument]
