💯 with you.

I probably would have liked it better if it hadn't taken what TFA set up and went "fuck that I do what I want". Which is generally my problem with the ST.

I agree. I wish Rian had been given the whole trilogy, as the shift from JJ playing it safe was just too much.

Same.

It's actually the only SW movie I've ever liked period.

If the assignment was to make SW accessible and enjoyable to outsiders in one self-contained movie arc well. Rian Johnson understood the assignment and bless him for it.

I like it because I love that Rey's entire backstory is that she doesn't come from an Important Family Legacy and how she got to where she is was on her own. I never watched Episode IX, but I know that film crapped all over that, so that sucks.

Also, I liked Rose, but admittedly this one is self-indulgent since she's Asian like me.

+100, that was the best part of her character.

You're right and you should say it, OP.

(Anonymous) 2025-12-30 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I was so excited that it was at least trying to go somewhere new--especially with that kid with the broom at the end!

"Doing something new" is not necessarily good if it's pointless, shits on both the established first part and parts of the fandom because the director was on an ego trip and relies entirely on dumb jokes and cheap gotchas to be ~different~. Also, it rehashed plenty itself.
