I use ravelry for patterns. Just choose free ones. When I don't know how to do a stitch or transition, I use YouTube for that. Some favorites are Bella Coco, Club Crochet, and Planet June.

If you are looking for an easy, long term project, I'd suggest a granny stripe blanket. Once you get the hang of the rows, you can do it without a lot of focus. I'd suggest doing 2 rows (at least) of each color at a time.
