I love this show. But damn was Jared a terrible actor in the early seasons. I never bought him any of the times Sam was supposedly possessed. I never bought any of his emotional scenes. He really only got better in the much later seasons.

I seem to remember both Jared's and Jensen's acting being a bit ... shallow, I guess? at the beginning. I suppose part of it was the standard CW style at the time. And it definitely lasted a lot longer for Jared.

I certainly didn't buy Lucifer!Sam. Soulless!Sam was probably easier to pull off since it was mostly an absence of emotion and a layer of general confusion.

I find this so funny bc neither of the main actors in this show was good but oh my god, I always felt like Jared's acting got even worse with every season !

Yeah, his approach to "the quivering lip" style of acting was so ridiculous. Dean actor was much better: although he didn't have much range, he stayed within his abilities and was believable.

I never saw his acting really improve, in fact what I've seen of him post-SPN somehow got worse.

And he's kind of an asshole, to top it all off!

Oof yeah. The GULF between Jensen and Jared's acting ability in early seasons is a lot to deal with sometimes... Some of it I assume is just a reflection of how much work each of them had put into their craft individually at that point, but I also think there's a much lower ceiling in terms of growth for Jared. I'm not sure how much of that is just his deciding he doesn't need to work harder because he's a big enough name for the cw to keep employing him.
